PROCEED Project has come to an end!

After more than 3 years of interesting research activities, PROCEED was officially finished last January 2010.

All findings of the research conducted within PROCEED have been synthesised to produce the "Guidelines for High Quality Public Transport". These practical guidelines include the most important experiences and have been designed to help decision makers, public transport planners and operators to efficiently and effectively develop, upgrade, finance and manage urban bus systems and related mobility services.

These Final Reports and Study Materials have been revised and approved by the European Commission.

EURO BUS EXPO 2010

The 3rd European Bus and Coach Exhibition will take place from Tuesday 2 to Thursday 4 November in Hall 5 at Birmingham’s NEC. A comprehensive trade show, one that attracts over 250 of the industry’s leading suppliers, Euro Bus Expo will once again transform the NEC into Europe’s leading forum for the bus and coach community.

With more than nine months still to go till the show some 90% of total exhibition space has been taken with around 150 exhibitors so far pledging their support.

The continue to take bookings on a daily basis and it seems that they will hold another sell-out show. With such strong demand for space, exhibitors and visitors alike can plan ahead with confidence, and look forward to what promises to be a really major event for the UK and the rest of Europe.

Euro Bus Expo 2010 has also announced their official support of Smart Move – a joint industry awareness campaign by IRU and Busworld to make buses and coaches the foremost means of public transport throughout Europe and the rest of the world.

Regional Government of Alava prepares "Bonus" system to promote PT

The Regional Government of Alava (Northern Spain) is designing a "Bonus" system to promote the use of interurban buses.

The Department of Public Works and Transport announced at the beginning of February 2010 their intention to launch a "bonus system" on the second half of the year for the users of interurban buses of Alava.

The authorities hope that this measure will serve to foster the use of interurban buses in the region, by rewarding the frequent users and contributing to mitigate the expected fare increases.

The department has also announced that this month the authorities will start the procedure for the creation of a Regional Transport Authority in Alava, with the implication of other agents as the Municipality of Vitoria-Gasteiz and the Basque Government. Among its functions: coordination and planning of public transport services, fare integration and information at regional level. Other stakeholders, such as the taxi sector and the cycling council will also be involved.

PROCEED´s Final Conference

PROCEED´s Final Conference was held on 2nd July 2009 in Brussels. During this conference, project partners and subcontractors presented and discussed the Guidelines for High Quality Public Transport and the WIKI.

The outcome of the discussions during the Conference has served to finalise the Tool and Guidelines. We received valuable feedback on the WIKI to be able to improve the previous version of the Guidelines. Please visit our TOOL and send us your views, comments, etc...

Public transport to festival courts

July 2008: Leuven Railway and Bus Station as PT-connection node to Rock Werchter.

Every year on the beginning of July the Rock Werchter Festival 2008 takes place in a little town at 13 kms north of Leuven. This year the festival happened from Thursday 3rth to Sunday 6th of July, and it was visited each day by average 85 000 people.

PROCEED Workshop with practitioners

A Succesfull Workhop with practitioners was held on 15-17 October in Graz, Austria.

The objective of this workshop was to consult with practitioners the validity of the Guidelines and findings from WP3 and check that they are useful in practical work all over Europe.

All the comments raised by the experts are being processed at the moment and will be included in Deliverable 3, which will be available soon!!

Hybrid Fuel Cell Bus in Belgium

At the UITP exhibition in Helsinki the Belgian Bus and Car manufacturer Van Hool and its partners UTC Power, Siemens and Air Liquide presented the hybrid fuel cell bus for Europe. It is used on test since summer 2007 on a 25 km regional bus line between Antwerp and Lier operated by the Flemish transport company De Lijn in Belgium, the first company to use this bus on its network.

With the introduction of the hybrid fuel cell bus, VAN HOOL and its partners are taking an important step towards establishing environmentally friendly public transport. The purpose is to contribute to the reduction in the emission of harmful exhaust fumes, in particular fine particles and CO2.

This modern, environmentally friendly city bus combines the result of Van Hool’s 60 years as a bus and coach manufacturer with UTC’s know-how as a fuel cell specialist and Siemens’ electrical drive technology. Importantly, Air Liquide is supplying the hydrogen. This fuel cell bus is soon to be trialled for the first time for ten months by Flemish transport company De Lijn in Belgium.
